1965 Mercedes-Benz 230SL Pagoda in Red with 4-Speed Manual
About this vehicle
Production of the W113 kicked off with the 230SL in June 1963, running through January 5, 1967 — the first of three variants before the 250SL and 280SL followed. This 1965 car wears red over a black interior and carries a 4-speed manual. It's been with the current seller since 2016, and it's offered now out of New York. The previous PCARMARKET listing is available here.

That concave hardtop is why every W113 got the "Pagoda" name, whatever the engine displacement. The roof matches the body color. Fourteen-inch wheels do the same. Chrome runs along the left-side mirror, bumpers, windscreen surround, door handles, and grille. The red finish was redone after the seller took possession in 2016, with rust spots addressed as part of that work. More images are in the gallery.

Inside, a full interior redo produced the current black upholstery. Perforated bucket seats, grey square-weave carpeting, a body-color dashboard, chrome trim throughout. The two-spoke steering wheel is white-painted. VDO analog instruments cover gauge duties, and roll-up windows are fitted. Worth knowing: the radio's currently inoperable, the fuel gauge works only intermittently, and true mileage is unknown.

Under the hood sits the 2.3-liter M127.II inline-six, the factory-designated engine for the W113 230SL, fed by Bosch mechanical multi-port fuel injection — one dedicated plunger per injector, spraying directly at each intake port. Factory ratings land at 148 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque. Drive goes rearward through that 4-speed manual. The W113 platform derives from the W111 sedan with the wheelbase cut by 30 cm (11.8 in); up front is double-wishbone suspension paired with recirculating-ball steering, while braking falls to a dual-circuit setup with solid front discs and power-assisted rear drums. A new battery has been installed.

Sale includes a clean title and New York registration.
