About this vehicle

The 914 came out of the VW-Porsche Vertriebsgesellschaft joint venture — sold across Europe as a VW-Porsche, badged simply as a Porsche on US soil — and it was genuinely strange for its moment. Mid-mounted engine ahead of the rear axle. Removable Targa roof panel. A two-seat body so light it had almost no real competition. For 1973, Porsche slotted the 2.0-liter variant at the top of the 914 range, pairing that larger flat-four with a revised side-shifter gearbox that finally corrected the notoriously vague linkage plaguing the earlier tail-shifter cars. This one's White over black, 83,673 miles, bought new in California by a single owner who kept it the entire time. It's offered now in Norman, OK, clean title in hand.

The White paint is described by the seller as excellent and rust-free, though there's one honest admission: slight bubbling on the rear compartment panel. More critically, the battery tray area — the first place any knowledgeable 914 buyer looks — is reported free of corrosion. Chrome bumpers with black bumperettes, pop-up LED headlights, a polished driver-side mirror, and a single exhaust outlet fill out the exterior. Sixteen-inch wheels wear 195/55 Kumho tires with fewer than 500 miles on them since fitting. The black vinyl Targa top panel comes off, as the body style requires.

Black throughout, the cabin shows no cosmetic imperfections per the seller. A comprehensive 2003 refurbishment covered a lot of ground: new headliner, sound deadening laid across the floor pan, new seat hinge brackets, the rear pad reattached, seat-belt warning switch replaced. Heater works. Radio works. No air conditioning was ever fitted. Every gauge, electronic, and accessory is reported fully functional.

The US-spec 2.0-liter flat-four left the factory rated at 91 hp SAE, originally fed by Bosch D-Jetronic electronic fuel injection — that manifold-pressure-controlled system Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and Volkswagen all used during the same era. Automobile Atlanta's 2002 rebuild swapped the injection system for carburetors; the original D-Jetronic hardware survived and goes with the car. Drive reaches the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual. The seller flags that second gear is slightly notchy — a known, longstanding trait of these gearboxes, not a red flag. Brakes and clutch are reported excellent. DC Racing did a further overhaul in 2021. New battery fitted recently.

The sale includes a clean title, the original fuel injection system, and service records tracing the car from its California purchase through both major overhauls.
