2020 Audi S6 and S7: More Torque, Fewer Cylinders Than Before
After the introduction of the new Audi A7 last year, Audi is now introducing the 2020 S7, which boasts a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V-6 engine that gives it 444 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. It’s already been released in Europe and will be launched in the United States later this year.
But there will be some differences between what’s available in Europe compared to what will be available in the U.S. Most notably, the American version will be gas-powered by a V-6 (replacing the V-8 in previous S7’s), while the European version will have a 3.0 liter turbocharged direct injection (TDI) engine with 48-volt electric supercharging assistance.
Stats for the European TDI:
- 349 horsepower
- 516 lb.-ft. of torque
Stats for the American V-6 (which is similar to the RS5’s engine):
- Similar to the engine found in the current S4 and S5)
- 450 horsepower
- 442 lb.-ft. of torque
Features available from both the S6 and S7:
- A digital instrument cluster
- Dash with dual touchscreen
- Four-wheel steering
- Rear tail-light bar (like the one on the A7)
- Adaptive dampers
- Torque vectoring
- Suspension lower than the A7’s suspension
- Six-piston steel brakes
Cosmetically speaking, the S6 and S7 sports a splitter fascia in the front and a rear diffuser. Compared to previous S7’s, the 2020 model feature an updated new grille along with more vents and scoops. On the inside, there’s sport seats and accents of aluminum trim.
Basically, the 2020 S6 and S7 are faster, more refined mild hybrids with a V-6, replacing the more powerful, V-8-equipped older incarnation of the S7. In the U.S., the 2020 S7 will have an $84,895 price tag (for the Premium Plus trim level), while the Prestige trim level will be going for $90,495.
If you find the replacement of the V-8 off-putting, you may want to wait until Audi releases its newest RS7. It’s predicted to have a V-8 engine, possibly matched with a hybrid boost.
