About this vehicle

Volkswagen's Type 2 was born from a straightforward need — a practical commercial partner for the Beetle — and it answered that call across an impressive spread of body styles. The Single Cab Pickup is its own animal within that lineup. Split windshield up front, drop-side cargo bed out back, and a clever pass-through storage compartment tucked right under the load floor. This 1961 example wears Dove Blue over a restored interior, and it carries itself with the kind of honest purpose the design always intended.

The Dove Blue bodywork was refinished around 2000 and is reported to present well overall, with a handful of cosmetic touch-ups applied more recently to keep things tidy. Three-sided access on the cargo bed — fold-down gates on both sides and at the rear — makes tight working situations far less frustrating. Volkswagen's transverse "treasure chest" compartment spans the truck's full width beneath the load floor, opening from either side for enclosed storage that's genuinely useful. Body-color steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps, round headlights sit up front, dual side mirrors flank the cab, and white bumpers trim each end in a clean contrast.

The cab interior was restored under current ownership. Blue vinyl covers the bench seat, interior surfaces and trim have been refinished, and that no-frills, workaday character of an early commercial Type 2 comes through clearly. Facing the driver: a body-color metal dashboard with a centrally mounted VDO speedometer and a two-spoke steering wheel. Rubber floor covering and a floor-mounted shifter keep things simple. The original identification plate sits behind the seat, and the rear of the cab opens into the spare-wheel area.

Power comes from a rear-mounted 1,600cc air-cooled flat-four driving the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transaxle. The seller believes the engine was rebuilt around the late 1990s or 2000, though no documentation confirming that is currently on hand. Fluid servicing was done recently as part of regular maintenance carried on throughout a long ownership. It's reported to run and drive properly — a cruising character that fits the early Type 2 just right.

Same owner since approximately 2000. That's roughly 26 years with one steward, which doesn't happen often. A clean title comes with the sale.
