The PCV valve oil trap on your Volvo allows crankcase pressure inside the engine to vent back into the air intake while trapping engine oil and sludge. This process allows the crankcase gases to be burned up during combustion, reducing vehicle emissions. Oil and sludge build up in the PCV valve oil trap will eventually fill and clog the oil trap, forcing crankcase pressure to escape through other parts of the engine and create oil leaks. Since clogging of the PVC valve oil trap is inevitable, Volvo recommends replacing PCV valve oil trap every 100,000 miles. The 1271988 genuine Volvo PVC valve oil trap is the original equipment replacement PCV valve oil trap for your 2003-2007 Volvo and 2003-2006 Volvo XC90.
