The timing belt on the Volvo V70 is used to turn and sync the camshafts to the crankshaft to time ignition, fuel injection, and valve operations for engine combustion. As part of routine maintenance Volvo recommends replacing the engine timing belt every 10 years or 120,000 miles along with the timing belt tensioner and idler pulley to prevent the engine from going out of time. If your Volvo V70 engine comes out of timing because of the tensioner or idler loosens, the engine will not run. Worse, if the engine timing belt breaks, the engine will spin out of control allowing the pistons to collide with the valves, leaving the engine needing to be rebuilt or replaced.
