INA Drive Belt Tensioners and Pulleys
Ever since the introduction of serpentine drive belts over 30 years ago, the importance of maintaining the proper belt tension relied on hydraulic or spring-loaded tensioners. The INA line of drive belt tensioners are designed to exactly replace your original tensioner assembly. When that belt starts making noise from slipping you know the belt has stretched beyond the point the tensioner can take up the slack. But the tensioner itself may also need replacing and while you’ve got the belt off to replace it’s a great time to replace the tensioner and all the belt system pulleys. Since most pulleys are now a plastic roller with an integrated bearing, these can breakdown over time and fail. Preventive maintenance on your belt system will keep you from being stranded and give you many more miles of service.
INA Alternator Pulleys
Many modern engines utilize an overrun or freewheeling type pulley on the alternator. With the ever increasing electrical loads placed on new alternators special pulleys were created to dampen the vibrations and to allow for freewheeling during deceleration. These features can help extend the life of the alternator. There are a few different types of these alternator pulleys and the INA pulley listed is the exact one needed for that model. You cannot interchange different types because the alternator and belt drive system were designed for just one type. Please also note that special tools may be required to remove and install these pulleys without damage to the pulley or the alternator.
INA Timing Belt Component Kits
The use of a timing belt on your engine keeps the camshaft(s) synchronized with the crankshaft so that the valves open and close at the proper time in the combustion cycle. Timing belts have a factory specified replacement interval which should be adhered to in order to avoid engine damage should the belt fail. The INA timing belt component kits are a great way to make sure you replace all the key components at the same time. These kits will usually include the timing belt, timing belt tensioner and/or roller assembly, and any idler rollers that should be replaced with the belt. Be sure to read and follow your engine’s specific procedures for timing belt replacement and use a cam locking tool to prevent the camshaft(s) from moving. Being just one tooth off on the belt position on the cam changes your valve timing considerably and may ruin the engine!
